[Yuki Nakamura] Towards biodiesel production on the snow surface

Snow algae are known to cause “watermelon snow”, which rapidly changes a white snow surface to pink. A research project led by Dr. Yuki Nakamura discovered that Chlamydomonas nivalis, a representative snow algae species, produces higher amount of TAG with better quality for biodiesel production than conventional algae model C. reinhardtii. Snow algae may be useful in creating a source of biodiesel on the snow surface.
