2026 The 18th Shang-Fa Yang Memorial Lecture (9/15, Taipei | 9/16, Tainan)

Academician Shang-Fa Yang was a world-renowned plant physiologist whose landmark discovery of the plant ethylene biosynthetic pathway (the "Yang Cycle") brought revolutionary advances to global agriculture. To honor his legacy and continue his lifelong passion for advancing agricultural biotechnology and mentoring young scientists, the Shang-Fa Yang Memorial Foundation established this lectureship. Each year, the Foundation recognizes outstanding agricultural scientists with significant global impact, honoring their scholarly achievements and inviting them to deliver keynote lectures. Through this initiative, the Foundation aims to cultivate the next generation of agricultural scientific talent and foster global academic exchange and development in the field of agricultural biosciences.

This year’s distinguished awardee is Professor Alice Y. Cheung, an Honorary Academician of Academia Sinica, a Member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, and a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). She currently serves in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. As a world-leading plant biologist, Professor Cheung has long been at the forefront of interdisciplinary research in plant reproductive biology, polarized cell growth, and receptor kinase signaling mechanisms. Her pioneering work has contributed profoundly to unlocking the secrets of plant growth and stress-response signaling.

The award ceremony will take place on September 15 in Taipei, followed by two keynote lectures held in Taipei on September 15 and Tainan on September 16. We cordially invite scholars, students, and friends from all fields to join us for this grand event!
