[Kazue Kanehara] The unfolded protein response modulates a phosphoinositide-binding protein through the IRE1-bZIP60 pathway

Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress is caused by environmental perturbation including abiotic stresses and biotic stresses, which lead to a disturbance of cellular homeostasis for protein biogenesis and glycerolipid biosynthesis in the ER. The current study identified a plant-specific phosphoinositide-binding protein, SVB, whose expression is controlled by the UPR through the IRE1-bZIP60 pathway in A. thaliana. These results reinforce our previously proposed new concept that the phosphoinositide signaling is a crucial functional component in the plant ER stress response.
