Interested in Joining Us?
We offer training in:
- Career Development
For people who are interested in pursuing advanced degrees or working in academia, work experience in a research lab provides the first step into this exciting and challenging world. For people who are interested in joining industry or pursuing other career paths, the skills developed for solving research problems are readily transferable.
- Scientific Methods
Working on a research project is one of the best ways to learn about scientific methods. In order to answer the research questions, we use logical reasoning to design experiments and analyze results. The ability of applying solid scientific methods to solving problems is important in many professions.
- English Proficiency
Our daily activities require intensive reading and writing in English. Additionally, seminars and lab meetings in Academia Sinica are mostly conducted in English, so there are plenty of oppurtunitues to practice listening and speaking as well. For people whose native language is not English, this experience will improve the language proficiency.
- Bioinformatic Skills
Most projects in our lab involve heavy use of bioinformatic tools. This provides an environment to gain knowledge and experience of various information technologies regarding software and hardware.
- Molecular Biology Skills
In addition to computers, we use a variety of molecular biology tools. These skills will be useful for people who are interested in pursuing a career related to molecular biology.
We emphasize these qualities:
- Integrity
Being honest and responsible for one's actions are some of the non-negotiable requirements in any work environment.
- Passion
Life is full of possibilities. If going to work does not seem exciting (at least some of the times), one should find something else that can better inspire passion.
- Curiosity
Scientific research is all about generating new knowledge. The determination for finding out the answers and the ability of adapting new tools are both indispensable when new findings take the research projects to unexpected directions.
- Confidence
A crucial part of scientific training is to nurture independent thinking. For this to work, having the confidence to make judgment calls when necessary is a must.
- Cooperativeness
Because most scientific endeavors require team efforts, the ability and willingness to work with other people are essential.

In general, contact the principal investigator ahead of time is a good idea to make a plan that works for everyone. Please briefly describe the following points in the inquiry email:
- Your educational background and research experience.
- Your motivation for joining our lab.
- Your future career goals.
- The name and contact information of at least one referee.
- Other relevant information.
Basic English proficiency is important, particularly for reading comprehension. We offer bioinformatics training for those who are interested but do not have related background.
Postdocs and Research Assistants
We have openings for research staff from time to time and will advertise these positions when available. If you are interested in such possibility, please contact the principal investigator ahead of time even if there is no opening posted.
