The Institute of Plant and Microbial Biology (IPMB), Academia Sinica, Taipei, Taiwan (https://ipmb.sinica.edu.tw/), invites applications for tenure-track faculty positions at all levels in the research areas of plants and plant-related microbes. Successful candidates should have research records complementary to the current IPMB research capacities or have the potential to launch a new research direction. We are looking for a 1-2 year short term research assistant on molecular biology. You will be involved in any of the following projects:

Topic 1 Plant synthetic biology: To build a synthetic polarity circuit in plant root hair to hijack and modulate root hair tip growth.

Topic 2: Fungal cell polarity: To elucidate how differences in the polarity proteins in yeast and filamentous fungi influence the spatial temporal dynamics of cell polarity.

Topic 3: Bacterial communication within biofilms: Bacteria form multicellular communities called biofilms. Biofilms develop using patterned cell differentiation, similar to embryogenesis. This project aims to elucidate how oscillators within individual bacteria couple with each other to form synchronized patterns collectively in a biofilm.

Who we are looking for: People who are 1. experienced and skilled in molecular cloning, specifically making plasmid constructs, and 2. want to learn more.

What you will learn: All of the topics above heavily rely on the crosstalk between Dynamic Systems Theory, and Molecular Cell Biology. The lab is integrally good at Live Cell Imaging, Image Analysis, Coding, Dynamic Modeling, and Microfluidics. The Hsieh lab at IPMB focuses on fungal-bacterial competition. We combine functional genomics, genetics, and experimental evolution to determine the mechanisms and consequences of such cross-kingdom competition.

Our lab will start in October 2025. We are seeking 1-2 M.S. level research associates to help establish our new lab. Candidates will have the opportunity to lead independent projects under Phoebe’s mentorship and earn authorship on resulting publications. This position is ideal for someone with microbiology and molecular biology experience who seeks more hands-on research training.

Responsibilities
• Basic microbiology and molecular biology experiments, including:
o Routine handling of bacterial and fungal culture
o High-throughput genetic screens
o Build gene knockout strains
o Molecular cloning, DNA extractions, and sequencing
• Lab management support, including media prep, ordering, and maintaining equipment
• Candidates are encouraged to lead and execute small-scale independent research projects
• Present data at the lab meeting and provide weekly research updates
• Weekly update on the experimental progress
• 2-year minimum appointment

The laboratory of Dr. Ting-Ying Wu at the Institute of Plant and Microbial Biology, Academia Sinica (IPMB, AS), invites applications for a fully funded Research Assistant (RA) position. The successful candidate will explore plant-environment interactions, specifically focusing on plants such as Marchantia, Arabidopsis, and potentially soybean, under environmental stresses like heat stress and clock alterations associated with global warming in high-altitude crops. This project employs systems biology and predictive biology approaches and is conducted in collaboration with Dr. Devang Mehta’s lab at KU Leuven, Belgium. The job content includes Molecular cloning, analysis of protein expression, nuclear protein extraction, and mutant plant screening.

• Master's degree in biology or a related field
• Relevant research experience in molecular biology and plant biology

The lab of Ka Wai Ma is inviting application working on plant-
microbiota research. The lab is using different model systems and the
associated culture collection to understand the principles governing
plant-microbiota homeostasis. The lab routinely uses omics
techniques including amplicon sequencing, transcriptomics and
reconstitution system. The lab is currently looking for a motivated
candidate to work on a CRISPR editing project. The project aims to
use CRISPR technology to perform gene editing on crops with
subsequent phenotyping.
