The Small Molecule Metabolomics core facility in the Institute of Plant and Microbial Biology was established in April, 2009. Ultra-performance liquid chromatography with Synapt High Definition MS™ (UPLC-HDMS) and Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry offers continuous fast acquisition rates ideal for small molecular metabolomic and derivative analysis. Ultra-performance liquid chromatography with mass detection (UPLC-HDMS) that can separates metabolites in short time (5 times faster than HPLC) is very useful in metabolomics study. Its highly resolution and accuracy can detect the metabolite, and provide the potential elemental composition of the target. The metabolome represents the collection of all metabolites resulting from a wide range of biochemical processes in a biological organism that characterization, identification, and quantitation of metabolites. We provided strategy consultant and technical support like training and workshops for facility users.

The Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry Detector (GC-MSD), purchased at the end of 2009, is able to perform GC-MS identification.
